Rev. Dr. E. Scott Jones
March 1 2018
“Let’s gather over food to talk and learn some contemporary theology.”
Announcing a new program–Theology Brunch.
Our Senior Minister Scott Jones is known to read scores of books every year (over 80 last year). Now once a month he will review and lead a discussion into one of those books. Here’s an opportunity to engage in conversation about theology and philosophy.
We’ll plan to gather at noon the last Thursday of every month. We’ll kick off Thursday, March 29 noonish at Early Bird.
Here are the first few topics Scott has planned:
March 29—The Cross and the Lynching Tree by James Cone
April 26—The Power and Vulnerability of Love: A Theological Anthropology by Elizabeth Gandolfo
May 31—The Religion of Democracy: Seven Liberals and the American Moral Tradition by Amy Kittelstrom
June 28—After the Wrath of God: AIDS, Sexuality, and American Religion by Anthony M. Petro
July 26—Stand Your Ground: Black Bodies and the Justice of God by Kelly Brown Douglas
August 30—The Road to Character by David Brooks
September 27—Ravished by Beauty: The Surprising Legacy of Reformed Spirituality by Belden C. Lane
A note on reading: You won’t be expected to read the book, though feel free to. Scott will post a short, vital excerpt a couple of weeks before each gathering.
