An Interview With . . . Stephanie Cameron Nov 9, 2015 | Interview With . . . Introducing a new feature. Every two weeks we’ll post an interview with a congregant asking them about their work and volunteering and how those intersect with their faith and church experience. Not only will this be a way of getting to know other congregants, but we hope the series will illustrate the impact First Central and its members are having on the community and the region. We really do believe that we are changing the world! Meet Stephanie Cameron. Question: What is your occupation? What do you enjoy or find meaningful about your work? Stephanie: I am the owner and provider of an in home licensed childcare and preschool in the Northwest Omaha area. I love working with children on a daily basis and I really love to watch them grow from infancy up through their school years. I take great pride that they started on their learning journey in my home. I also love getting to know their families on a personal level. Sometimes developing friendships that last beyond my care contracted time. Q: How do you think your work is making a better world? Stephanie: You know the saying “it takes a village to raise a child?” I strongly believe that and with the work that I do with the kids everyday, reminding them that they matter, they are loved and they are important little people, that in a small way, I am doing my part to help raise the future of America. In a decade I hope my daycare children see their potential and are not afraid to reach for the stars. You never know when a child walks into your home for the first time what that child will grow up to become, so I hope by giving them love and showing them how exciting learning can be, that I’m helping to make the world a better place, even in a small way. Q: What causes or organizations do you volunteer with? Stephanie: I like to support organizations like Shriners Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s hospital. I have a special needs sister who has been helped by both those hospitals and we love them and are grateful to them. I’m also a strong supporter of places like the Lydia House in Omaha and Voices Of Hope in Lincoln. These organization focuses on crisis help for survivors of relationship and sexual violence and abuse. They are causes near and dear to my heart. I love to also help out with the community meal at First Central whenever possible. Q: How does your faith assist you with your work? Stephanie: I believe that my faith keeps me grounded in my work and keeps me centered. It helps me to look at everyday as a blessing and another opportunity to change the world, even in the smallest way. I believe kids practice what they see so I use my faith to be the best “me” that I can so they can be the best that they already are.
